1 dead, 1 hurt in Orange County crash

A 22-year-old Orange County man died when his car crashed into a tree less than three blocks from his home, the Florida Highway Patrol said this morning.

Daniel V. Canterini of Lindenhurst Drive in south Orange County was driving his 2003 Acura "at a very high rate of speed" eastbound on Darlene Drive and "was unable to maneuver through the curve and left the roadway on the right shoulder," according to an FHP report about the 2:30 a.m. accident.

The car hit a tree, which split the car. Canterini was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene, FHP said.

A passenger, Steven M. Ptashnik, 21, of Primrose Drive in Longwood, also was injured in the crash. The FHP report says he was in critical but stable and improving condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The FHP said neither Canterini or Ptashnik wore a seatbelt.
