Student dies, 3
injured in crash on I-95
BREVARD
COUNTY -- A University of Alabama student was killed and three
schoolmates injured Sunday afternoon when their sport utility vehicle
overturned on Interstate 95, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The four women were in a 1997 Isuzu SUV heading to South Florida for
spring break at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, troopers said. The women were planning
to board a cruise ship to the Bahamas.
Traveling on I-95 about four miles north of Mims, the SUV driver, Lauren
Braddy, 22, of North Carolina swerved to miss a chunk of tire tread in
the road. Braddy lost control of the SUV, it spun and overturned at least
two times, troopers said.
Braddy and the front-seat passenger, Mary Mcginness, 21, of Georgia, were
flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center where they were listed in
critical and serious condition, respectively.
Christin Lancaster, 21, of Alabama, who was thrown from the vehicle as it
rolled, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the only person in the
SUV not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
The other rear passenger, Hannah Jones, 21, of Alabama was taken to
Parrish Medical Center in Titusville with minor cuts and bruises.
