2 Killed In I-95 Crash
The
northbound lanes of Interstate 95 reopened in Cocoa Wednesday following a
deadly accident.
It happened at I-95 and Port St. John Parkway, WESH NewsChannel 2
reported.
A Toyota 4Runner crossed the median, flipped, and landed on top of a
northbound Saturn, an officer said.
"[The Toyota] hit the median," a witness said. "Once it started up the
embankment, it started flipping. It rolled over and was tossing the
occupants out pretty violently."
There were three people in the Toyota 4Runner when it crossed the median
and went into the air. The truck was empty when it came to rest, the
witness said.
Officials with the Florida Highway Patrol said two were killed in the
accident, including a woman in the Saturn. A 14-year-old girl and 33-year
old man occupied the Toyota along with a third, unidentified person. One
of the three died at the scene of the accident.
The two survivors of the crash were flown by helicopter to Orlando
Regional Medical Center.
A hospital spokesman confirmed that there were two badly injured people
at ORMC but would not release their condition.
The vehicle was traveling at 70 mph when the occupants were thrown from
it, officials said.
"It looked bad from the beginning, so I knew there were going to be some
fatalities," the witness said. "It was unbelievable."
