Accident In Leesburg
Kills 4
An accident
in Leesburg killed four people Wednesday night.
It happened at 11:30 pm Wednesday night on Main Street near U.S. Highway
441, WESH NewsChannel 2 reported.
A Chevy Impala was involved with four young men inside. The victims were
reportedly in their late teens to early 20s. Police officials have yet to
identify the victims but believe that they are, indeed, from Orange
County, specifically the Zellwood area.
The posted speed limit for that strip of road is 45 miles per hour.
Police said the driver somehow lost control at high speed, overcorrected
several times and hit a concrete sewer pipe, sending it into a tree. The
car split into two, with one passenger being ejected. It is believed that
they all died on impact.
"It's just absolutely amazing, it's probably right up there at the top as
the worst I've ever seen," said Leesburg police officer Scott Sparkman.
"These were young men and they died. It's hard to see, but I have a job
to do."
Richard Schneider works nearby the crash scene and says that part of the
road is notorious for speeding and that at least half a dozen accidents
occur there a month.
"It's a horrible area right here for accidents. It's a shame four people
had to perish and lose their lives for speeding, but it happens all the
time right here on this stretch of 441," said Schneider.
Police officials found only one proof of i.d. from the victims and are
currently running fingerprints and criminal records to somehow find the
identities of the four men. The vehicle's registration was processed and
officials found that the owner of the car is a family member of one of
the potential victims.
